This is a wonderful video by Dan Meyer, a high school math teacher near Santa Cruz, CA, about the teaching of mathematics. Although his experience is with secondary students, his ideas and approaches are equally appropriate for all ages.
I hope you take time to watch his clip (its about 12 minutes long) and really ponder how we can invite students to “do math” in our classrooms in such a way that allows them to really connect to the mathematical ideas.
